By: 0

As our community grows, so do we! We’re stoked to kick off 2019 by continuing to build up our team of coaches in order to help EVERY member at EVERY level to achieve their goals.

So if for some reason you’ve yet to meet Matty, please allow us to make the introduction! As a long time athlete, former CrossFit coach and all around good guy, Matt is looking forward to enriching your experience here with us at CFE. Read on to hear a little bit about Matt in his own words.

WHAT DO YOU SPECIALIZE IN?
Olympic Weight lifting, it’s the area that I enjoy the most. Olympic weight lifting is very technical and even the most seasoned athlete can learn something new. I enjoy finding the sticking points and trying to perfect the craft.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I’m passionate about learning new skills and challenging myself. I find that personal struggle and accomplishing new goals is a driving factor in all that I do. It’s hard to nail down one specific thing and it’s the journey of learning that I’m passionate about. Over the past few years I’ve learned how to mountain bike, wood working and building custom furniture, cloud computing using amazon web services, and brewing beer.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT COACHING YOUR ATHLETES?
I’m looking forward to sharing in the success and struggle of the athletes. As a coach you have a unique position of motivating, inspiring, and overall guiding the success of athletes. I think of it as a shared journey improving one’s personal and physical skills. I also just really enjoy the community that’s been built at Crossfit Epping and being able to say that I’m helping to build on that is exciting.

WHAT IS YOUR ATHLETIC BACKGROUND?
I starting skiing when I was 4 years old and have never stopped. That sport has been a foundation to all of my athletic endeavors. In middle school I played football and transitioned to Lacrosse in High School. In the off season I participated in indoor Lacrosse, track, and volleyball. I use to be a decent runner until I went to college. In college I mainly focused on 3 x 10 lifting schemes at the university gym and planet fitness. After college is when I got into Crossfit and 2 years in I earned my level 1 Crossfit certification and starting coaching at The Fort Crossfit.

HOW DID YOU END UP A CROSSFIT COACH? WHAT BROUGHT YOU HERE?
I started my first Crossfit gym after a close friend needed help designing his Crossfit website. We bartered a website for a membership. I was quickly hooked on the sport and enjoyed the community that was being built. I wanted to share my knowledge as an athlete and started coaching there. In 2014 I bought a house that moved me away from the Fort Crossfit and I took about a 1 year hiatus from Crossfit. Amanda starting Crossfitting and is the real inspiration to get me back in the gym over at Crossfit Tuff. We decided to move to Crossfit Epping after a year at Tuff because the commute made more sense for us.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE?
Lightweight Baby!
– Ronnie Coleman

Maybe not my favorite, but I seem to say it the most.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I’m really looking forward to coaching, but I’m more excited about getting to know all of the members on a more personal basis. For me, the best part about Crossfit are the people that share in a common goal of overcoming struggles and achieving success.
