Meet Coach Brandon

By: 0

You’ve all probably met Brandon at some point. He started as an athlete, then became a CFE Ambassador and now we’re happy to announce that he’s in the process of becoming a CFE coach! Over the next few month’s you’ll see Brandon going through our coaches’ training program as he transitions from athlete to coach.

If for some reason you haven’t crossed paths with Brandon then we’d like to formally introduce you. We asked him a few questions about his CrossFitting experience and what he’s most looking forward to bring  to your classes.

And yes, Brandon we couldn’t agree more… pineapple is not a real topping. Don’t fruit the pizza.

What do you specialize in?

Cardio & comedic relief.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about a few things when it comes to CrossFit. The first is my belief in the life changing ability of what goes on in our gym everyday. CrossFit has huge benefits not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. I’m passionate about the community of CrossFit Epping, because we have a superb group of members! Lastly, I’m passionate about CrossFit’s ability to be the past part of someone’s day. No matter who you are, where you’re coming from, or what’s happening in your life, anyone can walk in the doors of CFE and know that they can have fun, work hard, and forget about everything else for just a little while.

What are you looking forward to most about coaching your athletes?

I’m excited for those “aha” moments, when someone hits a perfect snatch, gets their first toe to bar, or nails their first kipping pull up, being on the other side of the room will let me share what I’ve learned through my own “aha” moments.

What is your athletic background? Any notable accomplishments?

I ran cross country and track in high school, I beat my arch rival in a 34 minute 5k as a freshman and finished as a senior with a 20:14 5k. I came into CrossFit with very little of the athleticism from my running days, it definitely helped me to get back on track (pun not intended).

How did you end up as a CrossFit coach? What path brought you here?

How to become a Crossfit coach, Brandon Early’s 9 step list:

Step 1: Join a tiny box outside of Philadelphia, knock yourself out with a barbell, chip your tooth on a pull up bar, fall in love with the CrossFit community

Step 2: Move home and join CrossFit Epping, avoid crying after your first workout, come back, and come back again, and again, and again

Step 3: Realize the power of the CFE community while being supported both in and out of the gym

Step 4: Leave CFE (Avoid this step if at all possible), join CrossFit Misfit in Maine

Step 5: Leave Misfit and CrossFit completely, realize how much you miss the community

Step 6: Rejoin CrossFit Epping

Step 7: Become CFE ambassador, help to build CrossFit Epping community beyond being a member, realize how badly you want to be a coach

Step 8: Register for L1 seminar on your own to have the opportunity to coach one day

Step 9: Graciously accept opportunity with CrossFit Epping

What’s your favorite quote?

“To Give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift” -Steve Prefontaine

Is there anything else you want people to know about you?

Why yes there are, three things actually.

1. My number one goal for my classes is for everyone to avoid injury and stay safe.

2. I feel incredibly privileged to share my knowledge, my passion, and my excitement for this sport with everyone that walks through the door.

3. I do not believe that pineapple should go on Pizza.
