July Athlete of the Month – Wayne Evans

By: 0

Wayne has been training with us for just about a year and a half. And although he’s moving on to a new job and greener pastures in NY, we’ve considered our time working with him a privilege. Wayne always works hard, pushes his fellow athletes and cracks jokes along the way. He sets goals, crushes them, and then sets more to ensure his fitness is ever-improving.

We like Wayne so much we don’t even hold it against him that he’s a Yankees fan. Since he also roots for the Rams, we wouldn’t want to add insult to injury. All joking aside 5:30 am won’t be the same without Wayne. We’re happy to hear all the good things coming his way, but we’re certainly sorry to see him go. Jeff misses him already. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and best of luck in NY!

Profession- VP of Operations at US Foods.  Soon to be Distribution Center General Manager for Tractor Supply back home in NY… Yes, I will be leaving but not until Aug.

Athletic Background/ previous fitness training- Played Football and Baseball in HS, continued to play Football in college at RPI.  After college I played for a semi-pro team in Glens Falls, NY.

What is CrossFit to you?  The drive to slow down the aging process.  It’s tough getting old.  Honestly, I love the competitive atmosphere and it fills my internal drive to improve.

Why CFE?  Like many other members, I started at another CF gym and I can tell you picking the right gym matters.  CFE gives you the community/atmosphere you would expect at most gyms but the coaching and programing sets it apart from the rest.  If you want to hit PRs and see your body take shape…you need to be at CFE.  Thanks Logan for the recommendation.

What inspires/motivates you to continue? The desire to stay young and compete.

Advice for someone hesitant to try CrossFit.  Just give it a shot.  With all new ventures comes with some anxiety but it doesn’t last long here.  Top not coaching a community makes you feel welcome and never out of place.  All the workouts can be scaled to ensure you’re pushing yourself at the right pace.

Proudest achievement- My family.  I realize how lucky I am to have a wife that supports me and crazy/funny kids.  I love them all very much and wouldn’t change it for the world.

Greatest challenge/weakness- At the gym- shoulder mobility.  Is what it is so I deal with it.

Goals (Inside + outside the gym)- At the gym…that damn ring muscle up.  It’s happening before I move!!  Outside- it’s simple, be the best husband, dad and friend I can be.  At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.

Favorite movement/ if you could design one workout-  I love to deadlift but really enjoy the partner/team workouts.  I find myself pushing harder to either keep up or not to let them down.  I have to say, I enjoy the rest between sets.

Special interests- Love to watch sports from the UFC to anything non Boston.  Go Yanks!!
