February Athlete(s) of the Month – Doug and Caitlin
Individually these two are pretty awesome, but together they’re even better. Doug and Caitlin have been training with us for a year and six months respectively and it’s been a pleasure for all the coaches to work with them. This soon to be married couple put in the work day in and day out. Their strong mind sets and solid work ethics have resulted in tons of positive gains and progress.
That’s why this month we’d like to shake things up and nominate them both as February athletes of the month. Congrats you two! And don’t forget the offer still stands to host your wedding at the gym…
Profession:
Caitlin: My profession is K9 Sergeant with the Essex County Sheriffs Department In MA
Doug: I’ve followed my great grandfather, grandfather and father into a career in Law Enforcement and I’m currently a Detective.
Athletic Background:
Caitlin: I have always been into working out, running, weightlifting prior to crossfit.
Doug: I use to workout at my department’s gym which usually consisted of trying to plan a work out for 40 minutes and 20 minutes of actually working out.
What is CrossFit to you?
Caitlin: Crossfit has become a huge part of my life. It has given me confidence in myself that I have never had. Crossfit is my stress relief in a hectic world and something that I look forward to everyday. I look forward to pushing myself harder everyday and watching my body transform and become stronger.
Doug: CrossFit is my stress relief. My attitude improves greatly after being there (just ask Caitlin).
Why CFE?
Caitlin: My fiance Doug told me that I should try CFE. Now I could never imagine going to a different CF gym the people at CFE are awesome!
Doug: CrossFit Epping has coaches that push you to your limits but never let you sacrifice form and members that keep you fighting through those long AMRAPs.
What inspires you/motivates you to continue?
Caitlin: My inspiration is feeling myself get stronger and watching my body transform into the body I have always wanted. I also have goals that I want to reach and each day I get closer to those goals I feel more inspired to keep pushing myself. I also see so many strong/amazing women at CFE and they inspire me to push myself harder each day.
Doug: My motivation is to never become out of shape to the point I’m a stereotypical donut eating cop even if it does sound delicious.
Advice for someone hesitant to try CrossFit:
Caitlin: I was always skeptical about CF before trying it. I listened to all the stereotypes and what people said. However I always felt that I never found a workout routine or gym that really pushed me. So after Doug told me to try it I was hooked! My advice would be don’t listen to what others have to say, try it for yourself and then make your decision. I promise you will not be disappointed. Getting involved in CF was one of the best decisions I have ever made!
Doug: I’m very economical (aka cheap as all can be) but CrossFit is worth every penny. If it’s your first time stepping into a gym or you’ve been working out for years CrossFit will dramatically improve both conditioning and strength while getting the chance to meet some great people.
Proudest Achievement:
Caitlin: My proudest achievement was probably when I finallybegan to get my form/technique for the power clean and snatch lift. Although it’s still a work in progress I feel more confident and comfortable while performing these lifts.
Doug: Getting a few double unders has been my proudest moment and I can’t wait to string more together.
Greatest challenge/weakness:
Caitlin: My greatest challenge/weakness would be pull-ups and double unders.
Doug: My biggest weakness is getting the form down for Olympic lifts.
Goals (inside + outside the gym):
Caitlin: My goals inside of the gym are to get strict pull-ups, double unders, toes to bar, and increase my strength lifting. Outside of the gym I want to keep improving my nutrition and just life a happy balanced life!
Doug: My goal inside the gym is to focus on my form and hopefully build strength. Outside the gym I hope to have a long successful career.
Favorite movement/if you could design one workout:
Caitlin: My favorite moment would probably be the deadlift. If I could design a workout it would include deadlifts, wall balls, push press, and bent over rows.
Doug: My favorite movements would include a 400m run, HSPU, burpees and deadlifts.
Special Interests:
Caitlin: My interests include spending time with my fiancé, four dogs, and my horse. I love just being outside in nature and being active with my fiancé and my animals.
Doug: I love my job, my dogs and looking forward to marrying my my best friend Caitlin.
Anything you’d like to add?
Caitlin: I love my job, my dogs and looking forward to marrying my my best friend Caitlin.
