Athlete of the Month | ALEXANDER SPINELLI
Athlete of the Month is back!!!!! It didn’t take long to pick this member, his name was unanimously thrown out there and the decision was quick! You’ve most definitely have seen him busting a groove throughout class and spreading his contagious positive energy around the gym. We are lucky he chose CFE and we are so proud to announce Alexander Spinelli as Athlete of the Month. See below for some fun facts on Alex and his decision to join CFE!
I work for Boston Globe Media Partner’s newest start-up news publication called STAT. I’m an Engagement Editor, which is just a fancy way of saying I do a smattering of different jobs — paramount being I manage the social team there.
Outside of work and CFE, I love to garden, play video games, hike with my dogs, and spend time with family and friends.
What did you do for fitness before CFE?
I used to do just a lot of at-home yoga and outside running, but that’s about it. Not a ton — shame on me.
What made you choose CFE?
So, I kind of put on the Covid 19lbs and I was immediately like “oh no, this can’t be right.” That’s when I knew I wanted to prioritize my health in a way I had never before. My financé had great success with a CrossFit gym before Covid and I figured I would give it a try. I reached out to four different CrossFit gyms and CFE was the first to get back to me! Then I had my first day with Sean and he was terribly patient, kind, and an overall wonderful teacher — I felt like I had found a safe place to be at.
Advice to someone who is hesitant to try CrossFit?
I’m just this little gay guy who struggles with social anxiety and I chronically think everyone doesn’t like me, so working out everyday with a bunch of athletes was terrifying to me. My advice, if you’re worried about joining because you’re worried about working out with a bunch of athletes — (that’s a fair and valid fear to have but) don’t be! Sean being kind and a good teacher was step one for me to stay at CFE, step two was having a room full of strangers invested in my success.
Also, if you’re scared to join and you do decide to join — come talk to me! I’m here for you!
Successfully making friends at CFE. I never, ever thought I would and I did and I’m so grateful. Also, I can do like two toe-to-bars in a row and that’s wild!
Besides strict pull-ups? I’d have to say pushing yourself to go to the gym on days you don’t want to.
Goals moving forward in life, at the gym?
Goals at the gym successfully doing the following: a strict pull-up, a double-under, a chest-to-bar, and going a full week where work doesn’t make me late and I get to the gym on time.
Goals in life — have a kick-ass wedding next April and then have babies with my man.
If you could design a workout what would it be?
One that has DANCING! Everyone knows I love when a dope jam drops and I start dancing during a workout.
If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Anything my Portuguese mom bakes … and mozzarella sticks, obviously.
“Have courage and be kind.”
You’re stuck in a Karaoke Bar and can’t leave till you sing a song, what song is it?
Confessions Part II by Usher
What’s a fun fact about you that we should know about you?
It might seem obvious to those who know me but I used to do theatre when I was younger!
