  • Tobey McLaren

    Owner/ Head Coach

Owner/ Head Coach Tobey McLaren has been told he looks intense and serious, but don’t be intimidated. “That couldn’t be farther from the truth,” he says. “I love to laugh and would prefer to not take anything too serious.”

Tobey has always had a passion for training. His first years were spent volunteering at an affiliate while active in the military. “It quickly became my passion and an integral part of my life,” he says. “CrossFit allowed me to understand what training was really about: improved health, performance, and having fun while doing so.”

His favorite quote is “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” – Mark Twain

Sean first discovered CrossFit as an outlet to relieve the stress from his job. “I had so much fun and quickly developed a strong interest in functional movement,” he said. “Working on improving myself lent itself towards sharing that experience with others and prompted a career change.”

His favorite part of coaching is helping people improve physically, mentally, personally and professionally. “Being in a position that facilitates that kind of positive change is something I’m genuinely humbled to be involved with,” he says.

    Coach

Coach Lesli Breault struggled to find something in the fitness world that would hold her interest and attention. “My husband urged me to try CrossFit, even though I was certain I would look like a man,” she says. “Took me a couple of months to get hooked and really drink the Kool-Aid, but now I’m all in. Bonus, I’m toned, but don’t look like a man!”

Her favorite parts of coaching are witnessing the determination and camaraderie in her members, and also that her kids see people of all shapes and sizes taking care of themselves and supporting one another. “Especially my daughter, who sees that being strong, healthy, and confident in her own skin comes in all shapes and sizes – AND THAT’S OKAY!”

After finishing a marathon in 2012, Shannon decided she wanted a change – she wanted a community of people to work out with. “I started CrossFit and was hooked,” she says. “As a member and a coach, I learn every day. I learn when I’m in a class instructed by another coach, and I learn when I’m coaching a class as well. This is an amazing opportunity, and I’m honored to be a part of this team.”

Eric played college football before becoming a CrossFit coach. “My passion for fitness and improving myself and those around me by becoming more physically fit,” he says. “I have experience with powerlifting due to offseason training for football. I’ve been an athlete my entire life, which has taught me how to coach a wide variety of different types of personalities.”

In his spare time, Eric likes to fish and golf. His favorite inspirational quote: “Everybody comes to a point in their life when they want to quit.  But it’s what you do at that moment that determines who you are.” – David Goggins

  • Adam Beaton

Adam Beaton is a forklift driver for his day job in addition to serving as a CrossFit coach here. “I try and make every conversation I have with someone special and meaningful,” he says. “I always try to exceed in the gym and push my limits. I love my girlfriend Sam and try to be the best me I can be every day.”

What Adam enjoys most about coaching CrossFit is any time somebody surprises themselves in the gym, or goes above and beyond and did something they never thought they could do. “I love the community that CrossFit Epping has, and the comradery that goes on in the gym every single day,” he says. “I was thrown into the ocean at a young age, and grew up surfing in Rye with my dad. Throughout middle school, I played any sport imaginable, until I got into Skateboarding, which led me to skate for Converse. After college, I had stopped skating and wanted to stay in shape, and starting going to a commercial gym, which I got sick of extremely fast, which brought me to CrossFit!”

Getting to know Adam can be a lot of fun. “I’m a hard worker at heart, and a complete goof ball at the same time,” he says. “I am obsessed with music, and can gladly kick some ass in a game of ping pong. I have a competitive drive, but want others to succeed just as much as I do. And I LOVE being in the gym.”

  • Frankie Impastato

Frankie Impastato has been a CrossFitter for five years and specializes in powerlifting and weightlifting. Active in high school and college athletics, Frankie came across CrossFit while in college. “After being a personal trainer for some time, I decided to look into what it took to become a CrossFit coach,” he says. “After achieving my Level 1, I began applying for coaching jobs. I bounced around New England, coaching in several different CrossFit gyms, and greatly enjoyed each of them. I built an incredible family at each gym that I’ll never lose.”

Settling in at CrossFit Epping couldn’t be a better fit for Frankie. “Being back in my home state of New Hampshire and near my friends and family, I’m glad to be in a position to enjoy my passion each and every day.”

A guy with a soft spot for dogs (especially underdogs), Frankie’s favorite inspirational quote: “Life isn’t about how had you can hit, but how hard you can get hit and still keep moving forward.” – Rocky Balboa

  • Mike Irving

Mike Irving is a Heavyweight Champion who specializes in bodyweight movements. “I love helping our athletes improve,” he says. “Over the two years I have been doing CrossFit, I would not have improved to where I am without the help of the coaches. Just hoping to pass that on to others,” he says.

In high school, Mike was a wrestler and runner. How did he become a CrossFit coach? “My lovely wife pestered me until I finally gave in and tried CrossFit,” he says. “It wasn’t long before I was hooked. As time went on, I found myself wanting to learn more and progress in what I could do. I see the opportunity to coach as another way to learn and pass on what I have learned.”

A beer aficionado, Mike is also very dedicated to his family. “My wife and boys are the most important thing on earth,” he says. “And, beer, I like beer.” In fact, his favorite quote is: “Ah, beer. The cause of and the solution to all of life’s problems.” – Homer Simpson

Kevin is passionate about fitness and the challenge it represents. “Fitness is the long game, not a quick fix,” he says. “I like to set lofty goals and work towards them, always learning. I think when we stop learning and challenging ourselves, we begin to decline.”

Kevin began his CrossFit journey in 2013, and contrary to popular belief, he does not wear his wife’s workout shorts.

    Certifications:

  • Kari Laquer

Coach Kari Laquer started CrossFitting six years ago, after her first child was born with major health issues and she needed “some place to go besides the hospital.” “The CrossFit community changed me,” she says. “Instead of lamenting a given situation, these people support you while you put your blood, sweat, and tears into the positive. It’s powerful.”

As a coach, Kari understands that CrossFit is more than just about building better bodies. “Coming to class is an opportunity to work on the person inside you that might not get paid attention to during the rest of the day,” she says. “I bet you really like that person. He/she probably deserves some attention.”

Kari says she loves CrossFit, period. “It’s fun when it sucks, when it comes easy, when you PR, and when you’re gasping. Hard work is fun, and that’s the attitude I bring to coaching. Smile. Get after it. Feel proud. Do it again tomorrow. We’ll have a blast doing it together.”
